Five months before the Paris Games, the Frenchwoman obtained her third world medal over the distance on Saturday in Doha – the second in silver – beaten only by the Swede Sarah Sjöström.

After bronze in 2011 in Shanghai and silver in Budapest in 2022, Mélanie Henique added a third world medal to her record in the 50m butterfly, Saturday February 17 at the world championships in Doha (Qatar). Second best time in the semi-finals (25”27) behind queen Sarah Sjöström (25”08), the 31-year-old Frenchwoman believed she could thrill the Swede at the start of the race.

Better off, the French swimmer saw her opponent regain the lead over the last 25 meters to claim a sixth consecutive world title in the discipline in 24”63. Still, this second place (25”44), just ahead of the Egyptian Farida Osman (25”67) is a good omen a few months before the Olympic Games in Paris. Henique also confirmed it on the microphone after the race. “I feel ready, it was important for me to be here and to measure myself at a high international level. It’s a bit like a last rehearsal”she explained.
