The hard-hitting comic Megantic, a train in the night has been selected by the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival, which will take place from January 27 to 30, 2022.
The work of author and essayist Anne-Marie Saint-Cerny and cartoonist Christian Quesnel is a finalist in the brand new Eco-Fauve category, which rewards a comic strip addressing the theme of ecology.
The book, described as a “modern-day capitalist tale”, is an investigation that goes back to the source of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 47 people on July 6, 2013, but also speaks to its long-term impacts. “My first thought goes to the Méganticois who placed their trust in us. I am also very honored to belong to the great family of Quebec comics, which is increasingly recognized here and elsewhere, ”said Christian Quesnel in a press release.
“Thank you first of all to the people of Mégantic for their constant support,” added Anne-Marie Saint-Cerny, who wrote an essay on the subject in 2018. “Thank you also to the managers of the prestigious Festival who shed a bright light on forgotten tragedies. The prizes will be awarded on January 29 in Angoulême.
