CHS, Niska and Shay. This is the shock jury brought together by Netflix for New School, its adaptation of the Rhythm + Flow rap competition launched in the United States in 2019. Twenty apprentice rapper candidates competed for several weeks to win a check for 100,000 euros. Among them, Vink, from Gironde, who managed to win over the public by standing out against more established rappers.
“When I arrived, I really felt like I had been thrown into a gladiatorial arena, in my underpants, and not with the body of a gladiator“. Vink relies on his humor, and especially on his delivery which surprised and impressed jury and public of New school. “This surprise effect, it is super practical I think it saves me from a lot of things“, laughs the young rapper. An artist in the making, who works in his native countryside in Gironde surrounded by his brothers and sisters. It is here, closer to his roots, that he finds his inspiration, far from the clichés conveyed by certain rappers. He is not trying to invent a life for himself, he just wants to rap his own.
“Vink, before being a country rapper, he’s a construction site rapper. It’s laziness, demotivation, normal life in fact, boxer shorts and socks, watching TV on Sundays, the normal life of 90% of French people I think“, says the young artist. And if he did not win the competition, he gained in confidence and still continues the projects, his eyes turned towards the future. Next objective: to go on stage, and to be able to live of his passion.
