The “Pink October” breast cancer screening awareness campaign begins on Saturday 1 October. Testimony in the 12/13 of Mélanie Courtier, a young mother who, at only 31 years old and in full pregnancy, learned that she had breast cancer. Combative, she created an association to help other women.
In her suitcase, she has all the material to raise awareness about breast cancer. Throughout the year, the ambassadors of the “Jeune & Rose” association organize prevention actions. The goal? Knowing your body from an early age, and the gestures that can help detect the disease. “Before the age of 50, there are many cases of breast cancer, and our association is really proof of this.“, recalls Mélanie Courtier, co-founder of “Jeune & Rose”.
The structure accompanies 250 patients per year, affected by cancer between 20 and 40 years old. “We have particular problems in this slice of life. Between the ages of 20 and 40, when you have cancer, there is everything to do with motherhood, work, the relationship with society, the relationship with others, the fact of potentially not being able to have children because you had cancer“, explains Melanie. She discovered her cancer at 31, just after her second childbirth. She then exchanges with other women, “in the same phase of life“. His fight today gives him the strength to continue.
