Marine Hamelet is smiling, eager to start. Elected on Sunday evening in the 2nd constituency of Tarn-et-Garonne, the first member of the National Rally of the former Midi-Pyrénées region will take its first steps on Wednesday in the National Assembly to now defend “his” constituency. We met her.
At the age of 54, this commercial by profession was until then engaged in politics in Haute-Garonne, candidate for the municipal elections of 2020 in Saint-Orens. “Even if I was not in this constituency of Tarn-et-Garonne before, I have been in political combat for thirty-five years. I am aware of the issues. Before, I was also in a rural constituency where the issues were essentially the same.”
Continue the work of setting up the RN
Sunday night, Marine Hamelet was easily elected with 55% of the votes against Christian Astruc (Ensemble), with the support of the mayor Rassemblement National de Moissac Romain Lopez. With the election of Marine Hamelet, the RN thus confirms its territorial presence since the election of Romain Lopez two years ago. And the far-right party does not intend to stop there.
“We clearly felt on the ground an expectation of the inhabitants which can explain this anti-Macron vote, details Marine Hamelet. This desire for change has materialized and I am delighted. For several years, there has been implementation work that has been done and is progressing. This bodes very well for the upcoming elections.”
And Romain Lopez, the mayor of Moissac, to continue. “Marine will know his files very well. I’m sure of it. He’s a very diligent person. I’m also here to support him in taking on the files of the constituency. We’ll work together and we’ll continue to spread the ideas of our party on the territory.”
Among the 89 National Rally deputies elected on Sunday, there will be two, the first two from the former Midi-Pyrénées region, to do their debut at the National Assembly this Wednesday. Marine Hamelet will be accompanied by Frédéric Cabrolier, elected Sunday evening in the 1st district of Tarn. The first parliamentary session is scheduled for next Tuesday.
