More than 15 million euros have so far been raised for the Telethon, Saturday December 9 in the middle of the day. Meet little Valentin, who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare and degenerative disease that affects around a hundred newborns each year.

It is in a good mood that Valentin, 6 years old, has breakfast surrounded by his parents. Like all children his age, he is getting ready for school. Two years ago, the family discovered that their son had Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that gradually robs him of his muscular abilities. For the moment, Valentin is not late, he brushes his teeth and dresses like a grown-up. Schooled in CP class, the little boy is happy to see his friends again.

Genetic therapies being tested

Once a week, Valentin leaves to go to his appointment with the psychomotor therapist. “We know that our son is going to be in a wheelchair, and we are going to do everything so that he can have a normal life,” his father said. Although there is no treatment yet to cure Duchenne muscular dystrophy, genetic therapies are being tested.
