Health: medicines will cost more

From March 31, the remaining cost for patients will double, going from 50 cents to one euro for each box, except for minors, pregnant women and the most vulnerable.
The measure should allow Health Insurance to save 800 million euros per year. Buying medicines and going to the doctor for tests will cost more from March 31. For each box of medication prescribed, there will now be one euro which will no longer be reimbursed by social security. Until then, the patient only paid fifty cents.
Savings of 800 million euros
Mohamed Telha, pharmacist, does not only see negative things in this new measure: “It will curb waste, people will perhaps take fewer boxes…” For him, “touching the wallet, it makes people responsible“. The ceiling of the medical deductible remains set at fifty euros so as not to penalize people taking regular treatment. The remainder will also double for doctor’s consultations and medical analyzes, going from one to two euros. The exemption on medical transport will increase from two to four euros. The social security deficit was around nine billion euros last year.
