The response of medical specialists to the operation to recruit vaccinators was such that the government would not need the support of the army, according to the president of the Federation of medical specialists of Quebec (FMSQ).
“What I understand from officials of the ministry [de la Santé]is that the response is beyond their expectations, ”said Tuesday the Dr Vincent Oliva, who is awaiting more precise data on this subject from the Ministry of Health.
Monday afternoon, the FMSQ had launched an appeal to “all medical specialists” for the vaccination operation.
The Dr Oliva points out, however, that needs vary a lot from one region to another and that some volunteer doctors have been told by vaccination centers that they do not need them.
The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, has already affirmed that there were 500 shortage of vaccinators in the network to provide the third dose in Quebec. The FMSQ has 10,000 members in 35 medical associations.
In the morning, Radio-Canada maintained that the government of Quebec had demanded, Monday, the sending of troops of the Canadian army in the province to lend a hand to the effort of vaccination. A request formalized at the end of the day by Minister Geneviève Guilbault in a tweet.
Omicron threatens the hospital capacity of Quebec. We must speed up the vaccination of Quebecers. I have officially asked the federal government for the assistance of @ForcesCanada and resources from other organizations that can help with mass immunization.
