Media food drive | Sharp drop in donations in Montreal

(Montreal) The downward trend was confirmed in a striking manner during the 22e food drive for the media, which took place on Thursday. Comparing the figures to those of 2019, before the pandemic hit, donations have dropped by 75% in Montreal.

According to the preliminary results transmitted by press release, the street collection in the metropolis had made it possible to raise $58,290 at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. At the same time in 2019, the prize pool stood at $244,200, organizers said.

All is not lost, however, since Quebecers are invited to continue giving until December 31 in order to improve the harvest and replenish food banks.

It is possible to make cash or non-perishable food donations at Maxi or Provigo supermarkets. You can also make a donation on the guignolee.ca website or by text message. An amount of $10 will be donated by texting the word “CHRISTMAS” to 20 222.

In Montreal, donations will be given to Sun Youth, Moisson Montreal and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Montreal. These organizations will then be able to redistribute them in the form of food aid and meals to people in need.

The final figures for street collections across Quebec will be released on December 5.
