Former Juventus Turin and Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia will soon become the new sporting director of OM, the sports management of Radio France learned on Friday October 20 from a source close to the club’s entourage, confirming information from the Foot Mercato website.

His arrival must be subject to legal details being resolved. Until then, he was a player agent and in particular of the Moroccan international Azzeddine Ounahi, who is playing this season in Marseille. To avoid any risk of conflicts of interest, Medhi Benatia must cease her representative functions.

Trained in Marseille

HAS 36 years old, this will be the first time that Mehdi Benatia, trained at OM, will take on the role of sports director. “From the first day, we saw that he was made to become a sports director, he took the easy route by being an agent”explains this source, “he has all the components for this position, he studied the different sports directors he encountered in his former clubs”.

Another advantage is having been trained in Marseille and knowing the context of the city. “It’s fundamental”, blows this same source. Medhi Benatia must replace David Friio, whose amicable departure will soon be made official. His arrival also comes after the departure of Javier Ribalta, director of football.
