Between 2019 and 2020, 140,000 students were affected by sexual assaults or attempted assaults. The Minister of Higher Education is therefore launching a major campaign with measures to combat this violence. To encourage victims to file a complaint, investigation cells will become widespread.

The Minister of Higher Education, Sylvie Retailleau, is accelerating and unveiling new measures to fight against sexual violence. Among these, the increase in the annual budget dedicated to prevention, which will double from 1.7 million to 3.5 million euros per year. The aim is to increase the number of people trained on these issues. Finally, a consent awareness campaign is launched for the first time.

In all establishments of higher education, posters bearing the slogan “No yes, it’s forbidden” will be posted. For the Observatory studying sexual and gender-based violence, this is real progress, even if it remains insufficient. In 2020, 140,000 people were affected by an assault or attempted assault, which represents 4% of the student population.
