This is why many citizens, if not the majority, have been marching through the streets of the country for several weeks to protest against the new pension reform proposed by Elisabeth Borne. Reform which provides for a departure at age 64 under certain conditions. Faced with the anger of the French, many politicians took the floor to push or defend the Prime Minister. The Minister of the Interior wished to take a “personal example” to give its opinion and defend the government’s project. “I think the French believe that women and men politicians, ministers, live in a world apart”he confided at first before talking about his mother, a housekeeper since “years” : “She must retire, there, next July, at over 67, because otherwise she had nothing to live on”.

Subsequently, Gérald Darmanin assured that his mother “will not benefit from this reform”. In an attempt to appease the French, the Minister of the Interior also described a typical and exhausting day for his mother: “She’s been up at five in the morning cleaning up shit in people’s homes, and in offices for the forty years that I’ve seen her live. She’s had a hard life, not a very hard one, but I’ve seen her work at- beyond the legal age because otherwise she would have had a small pension”.
If the politician wanted to arouse a bit of pity among the citizens, it seems to have failed. Indeed, comedian Michaël Youn reacted to this statement on Tuesday, February 7. On his Twitter account, he took up the words of Gérald Darmanin, to also mention his personal case. “62 or 64 years old… Me, my mother is 75 years old and every day, she takes care of my father, of me, of her grandchildren, of her neighbour: there is not a day when she does not don’t bump”he lamented before letting go: “In fact, everyone retires one day… except my mother!” A tweet that did not fail to react to Internet users. Many of them giving reason to the comedian.
