“This is very bad news for the French championship”worried sports economist Vincent Chaudel, co-founder of the Sport Business Observatory, on Thursday February 15 on franceinfo, while star footballer Kylian Mbappé announced to PSG leaders his intention to leave the club at the end of the season.

“We already had a weakness in France which was our international TV rights”explains the sports economist. “That’s the whole subject and this subject risks being very worrying”according to him, evoking “TV rights which risk being significantly reduced” after the departure of the captain of the France team.

“When you have lost Messi, Neymar, Ramos, and now Mbappé, what are you going to sell internationally?”he asks. “PSG is a star club, that’s one thing, but what other clubs and players are there to attract the attention of broadcasters abroad?”. “I don’t know how the LFP will be able to get Ligue 1 out of this situation which seems very complicated to me”he finishes.
