Sandrine Josso, MoDem deputy for Loire-Atlantique, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Saturday September 28, 2024. Consent, investigation into senator Joël Guerriau, trial of the Mazan rapes… She answered questions from Bérengère Bonte and Hadrien Bect.
“We looked the other way” on consent
“For the moment, on consent, we have looked away from it. There is awareness to be made”assures Sandrine Josso, while the Minister of Justice Didier Migaud declared Friday on France Inter that he was in favor of the idea of changing the definition of rape in French law by integrating the notion of consent.
“We will have to seriously look into this, into all these subjects that make us uncomfortable” she adds. “People sometimes say kind words to me, to support me, and other people are able to say to me: ‘Since you have spoken, are you not afraid for your reputation?'” For MP Modem, the laws must be changed, “but also a whole culture and an awareness to be made in a much broader way and to lift taboos with a lot of courage.”
“These people, who commit sexual acts and assaults, are delinquents”
Sandrine Josso has filed a complaint against Senator Joël Guerriau, whom she accuses of having drugged her with a view to sexually assaulting her. The latter, indicted in November 2023, announced this week that he was stepping down from his parliamentary duties, without leaving his seat as senator. “What concerns me today is what the French say, that is to say that he is still a senator and he is still paid”reacts the MP, before adding that it is a “broader subject”: “These people, who commit sexual acts and assaults, are delinquents. It’s delinquency and we can no longer let this happen.”
“Until we understand the suffering of all these victims, things will be difficult to change”
In the middle of the Mazan rape trial, the elected official also affirms that there are “progress needs to be made to understand chemical submission and all the suffering that all victims experience. Until we understand the suffering of all these victims, things will be difficult to change.”
“There are lots of subjects that emerge from this courtroom such as the subject of pornography and its addiction, we are removing taboos. These are subjects that concern us all and on which some are not very comfortable. “Politicians must better take all these subjects into account.”underlines Sandrine Josso.
