On the 20th day of the war in Ukraine, Tuesday March 15, some Ukrainian mayors evaporate. They are then replaced by new pro-Russian councilors.

In Melitopol (Ukraine)), a town in the south of the country that the Russian army has occupied for 15 days, the mayor has just been replaced by a woman, Galina Danilchenko. Formerly in the opposition, she supervised food distribution operations under the Russian flag. “We are now receiving humanitarian aid, which comes to us from the Crimean Ministry of Emergencies“, indicates the new mayor in office.

The military occupation of the country seems to be becoming more political. One of Galina Danilchenko’s first steps was to allow Russian channels to be broadcast on television. In Melitopol (Ukraine), citizens demonstrate against this new appointment. For Oleg Bryndak, vice-mayor of the city of Odessa (Ukraine), this appointment does not mean the end of the resistance. “The mayor is important, yes, but without a mayor, we can still continue the fight”he says.
