Maxime Bernier intends to participate in the demonstration of truckers who, according to him, are victims like all non-vaccinated people of discriminatory authoritarian measures which must end.
In a virtual press conference on Friday, the leader of the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) launched a full-throttle charge against the Trudeau government and the provincial governments, accusing them of violating the rights of Canadians with health measures that represent the exception, while European countries and American states are lifting their restrictions.
According to him, unvaccinated cross-border truckers pose no danger and should be able to continue their work unhindered at the border. He in the same breath condemned the similar measures imposed by the American authorities at the border, accusing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of being “in collusion” with President Joe Biden.
Taking the opportunity to indulge in a purely political exercise, Maxime Bernier congratulated Conservative MPs Candice Bergen and Pierre Poilièvre for their support for truckers, inviting them to join his party, believing that the Conservative Party and its leader, Erin O ‘Toole, have become “morally and intellectually corrupt”.
Several requests to the federal
He also demanded that the federal government withdraw the obligation to be vaccinated for civil servants and employees of companies under federal jurisdiction, to rehire all those laid off for this reason and to oblige the payment of departure and provide access to employment insurance for those who choose not to return to their jobs.
He also called for the lifting of the ban on non-vaccinated people taking the plane, train or boat, seeing it as an attack on their constitutional rights.
Finally, he asked Ottawa to stop financially supporting the provinces that harm their economy by imposing excessive health measures. Maxime Bernier believes that the provinces should assume the costs of their choices themselves.
The leader of the People’s Party dissociated himself from the remarks of certain participants in the convoy of truckers who invite violence and organizers who say they want the replacement of the government in place by a committee made up of senators and the Governor General. He recalled that it is democracy which must be the source of changes of government.
