In the 38th minute, Urruti didn’t appreciate a push from defender Jesus Murillo and headed towards him to reply. The Argentinian touched the latter, who threw himself on the ground with a view to attracting a foul. A scrum involving all players from both teams followed.
Only Quebec goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and midfielder Diego Fagundez – scorer of the first goal of the match – received yellow cards on the streak.
This scuffle motivated Urruti, since he scored twice in four minutes after half-time. His compatriot Sebastian Driussi added in the 59th, taking the Texas club’s lead to 4-0.
In a lost cause, Cristian Arango demonstrated his athleticism to save the honor of his family a few moments later. He pounced to redirect a right-footed return shot while on the ground and goalie Brad Stuver was only able to partially stop the acrobatic maneuver.
The victory allows Austin FC to reduce the gap to six points with their Californian rivals, at the top of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer.
