Even with a missed start, Max Verstappen won on Sunday July 9 at the British Grand Prix, thus lining up his eighth victory of the season in ten races. The gluttonous pilot increases his lead at the top of the world championship over his teammate at Red Bull, Sergio Pérez, who only settled for 6th place after complex qualifying on Saturday.
The Dutch poleman had however remained rooted to the spot when the lights went out to the point of seeing Lando Norris overtake him. A short-lived benefit. Despite a crowd won over to his cause, the McLaren driver returned control of the race to the world champion on the fifth lap. Helped by the deployment of the safety car after Kevin Magnussen (Haas) stopped on the track, Max Verstappen was then able to stop at the best of times to guarantee his success.
Alpine sickened by McLaren
Forced to put on hard tires for lack of anything better, Lando Norris brilliantly defended the position that his compatriot Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), on soft rubber, gave him. contested on the remaining fifteen circuit loops. At home, the two Britons take second and third place respectively.
In addition to Lando Norris – already 4th in Austria last week – Australian Oscar Piastri’s other McLaren finished just off the podium. This fine double performance by the men in orange enabled their team to take 5th place in the constructors’ rankings at Alpine. The French team leaves Silverstone empty-handed due to the two retirements of Esteban Ocon (hydraulic leak) and Pierre Gasly (suspension failure).
