Few surprises, Saturday June 29, in Spielberg in Austria. Third after a particularly close Q1 – 0.798 thousandths of a second separated P1 from P20, a record – Max Verstappen finally took his eighth pole position of the season. He will therefore start at the head of the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, alongside Lando Norris (McLaren), second at 404 thousandths. Mercedes driver George Russell completes the leading trio.
A new masterstroke for the Dutchman, who already won the sprint race that very morning, ahead of the two McLaren drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, confirming the British team’s status as number 1 rival.
On the Alpine side, Esteban Ocon will start his car from 10th position. A few places ahead of his teammate Pierre Gasly, 13th, eliminated in Q2. His last outing was notably canceled for having exceeded the track limits at the exit of turn 6.
