Even in the rain, Max Verstappen dominates the debates. The world champion set the fastest time in the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session on Saturday June 18. He will start, for the second time this season, on pole on Sunday (8 p.m.) ahead of a surprising Fernando Alonso (Alpine), who, 10 years later, was invited to the front row, and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). Lewis Hamilton finishes in fourth place.

Disappointment on the other hand for the Dutchman’s teammate at Red Bull, Sergio Pérez, who lost control of his car in Q2, after having exchanged his rain tires for intermediates, and will start in 13th position. Small consolation for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc, who will start at the back of the grid after having decided to change the entire power unit and turbo of his car.
Second after the third and final free practice session on Saturday morning, French driver Pierre Gasly was eliminated in Q1 and will start in 16th place. Blame it on a brake problem at the front and an ill-advised tire change, which also got the better of the hopes of the two Aston Martins of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll (17th and 18th). First Habs, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) took 7th place.
