On the Italian Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola, Max Verstappen scored the 39th pole of his career on Saturday. An eighth in a row which allowed him to equal Ayrton Senna’s record, on the same circuit where the Brazilian died 30 years ago. But above all, the three-time world champion has, on Sunday May 19, the opportunity to record his 59th victory, during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Fifteen days after his second place in Miami behind Lando Norris, the three-time world champion is under the sharp threat of McLaren and Ferrari at home. Oscar Piastri, author of the second time less than a tenth from the Dutchman, was penalized three places for having unnecessarily hindered a driver, but it was his teammate Lando Norris who inherited second position on the grid. Just behind, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are keen to offer the Scuderia a first success on this track in front of their tifosi since the victory of a certain Michael Schumacher in 2006.
