Max Domi is also leaving the Blackhawks

The Dallas Stars were among the finalist teams to secure the services of Patrick Kane, but ultimately settled on another forward from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Texas team acquired Max Domi on Thursday, the day of his 28th birthday.

The former Montreal Canadiens head to Dallas with American League goalie Dylan Wells. In return, the Blackhawks get a second-round pick in 2025 and the contract of goalkeeper Anton Khudobin.

“We are pleased to add a player of Max’s caliber to our roster,” general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. His production this season speaks for itself, but he also brings energy and character.”

Domi is paid $3 million and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign. Although he spent the entire season with the Texas Stars, Khudobin is spending the last year of a pact worth $3.33 million annually.

Tie Domi’s son is therefore already on a fourth team since the Habs sent him to the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for Josh Anderson in October 2020. He also had a brief stint with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Domi is on course for at least his second most productive season on the league. He scored 18 goals and 49 points in 60 games, a high among the poor “Hawks”.

Author of a 72-point campaign in 2018-2019, Domi collected 363 points in 561 career games.

For his part, Khudobin has lost many feathers since leading the Stars to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020. He has played only 41 games in the National Hockey League since, and has been limited to a rate of .899 in 24 games in the American League this season.
