A kayaker is hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Sûreté du Québec, following an incident that occurred in the middle of the day, Saturday, on the Matawin River, near the Chapeau-de-Paille Controlled Exploitation Zone (Zec), in the Trois-Rivières sector, in Mauricie.
Emergency services were called at around 12:15 p.m. to respond to a person in distress.
According to initial information, the Sûreté du Québec indicates that a man in his fifties capsized while he was navigating under the river. He then went missing and was rescued by other kayakers who were with him.
The man was taken to hospital in critical condition and his life is feared to be in danger.
