Mauricie | Cattle seized from the farm that owns the fugitive cows

(Montreal) Nearly 40 animals were seized from the farm that owned the herd of cows that had been on the run for months after escaping from their paddock last summer in Mauricie.

A total of 38 cattle were seized at Ferme Clément Lapointe et fils, in Saint-Banarbé, following a recent inspection which revealed that the safety and well-being of some animals were at risk, according to the ministry. of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec.

A ministry spokesman, Yohan Dallaire Boily, said the animals will be assessed by a veterinarian. A report will be submitted to prosecutors, who will determine whether charges will be brought.

Twenty-four cows had escaped from the farm located about thirty kilometers northwest of Trois-Rivières in July.

The last members of the herd were not captured until January, despite numerous attempts, including one involving a group of cowboys from Saint-Tite.

The department has carried out frequent inspections since November to ensure that the cows that were returned to the fold were properly treated, mentioned Mr. Dallaire Boily.
