The 7-year-old child who was injured by a metal object while playing in the courtyard of a house in Massueville, Montérégie on Monday, died early Tuesday morning, announced the Sûreté du Québec.

“There should be an autopsy, among other things because of the age of the child. That said, there are still no elements that indicate to us that there would be a crime at the level of the investigation. And we include negligence in that, ”said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, in a telephone interview.
The circumstances surrounding the tragedy are still unclear. Around 2:40 p.m., the Sûreté du Québec emergency services were called to a child injured by a “metallic object” which fell on his head while he was playing with other children in the yard. of a house.
This object would not be agricultural machinery or a tool-vehicle, but rather resemble a freight elevator. “It is in fact a large metal structure which is used to support a load”, raised the sergeant on this subject.
The accident happened on rue Montcalm, one of the main roads in Massueville, in Montérégie. A few hundred people live in this village, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, between Montreal and Trois-Rivières.
Even if it seems a priori to be an accident, the parents of the deceased child will still be met by the investigators, “as is commonplace to do”, specified Mme Bilodeau.
A coroner should also conduct an inquest to determine the exact cause of death. He is expected to release a report in the next few months or even weeks.
