For Maserati, the MC20 symbolizes the quest for emancipation from cousin Ferrari. The supercar with a rear mid-engine was entirely developed by the brand with the trident to ensure the role, which is both thankless, but prestigious, of standard-bearer. Obeying the traditions of the category, the manufacturer recently presented a convertible version of its creation, for the greatest pleasure of the eyes when summer is fast approaching.

The Maserati MC20 Cielo is inspired, among other things, by the Ferrari F8 Spider by offering a rigid retractable roof. The difference in its case is that it also offers the possibility of letting in light when it is in place by means of an electrochromic lens that can be tinted on command. If the lure of the great outdoors is too tempting, it only takes 12 seconds to discover the cabin. Maserati claims its aerodynamics have been tested in the wind tunnel, which explains the heavily sculpted rear lid featuring fairings behind the headrests. It also makes a very nice visual piece.
Behind the cabin is the same twin-turbo 3.0L Nettuno V6 producing 621 hp, a horsepower-per-litre ratio that’s still impressive despite the addition of supercharging. An eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox keeps the pace.
The manufacturer is also busy preparing an electric version of this MC20. The convertible and electric combination is not confirmed, but could undoubtedly be very interesting.
The V6 employed displaces a car just 65kg heavier than the coupé, which helps maintain an essentially identical 0-100km/h that is completed in 3 seconds. If the track allows it, the top speed is capped at 320 km/h. Maserati further claims that the carbon-fiber chassis helps retain the car’s unbreakable look, preserving its sharp temperament.
Admittedly, this beautiful object should have a price that will exceed the $250,000 demanded for the coupe, which inevitably ensures its exceptional status.
