Marwah Rizqy will not be in the PLQ leadership race

The Liberal MP for Saint-Laurent, Marwah Rizqy, will not be in the race for the leadership of her party, she confirmed Friday.

“I cannot run for leadership,” she said in a press briefing at the National Assembly. Her priority, for the moment, is to have “a second baby”.

Mme Rizqy had fueled hopes a few days ago by saying she was “torn” by the race. “There is a part of me that feels ready,” she said.

“My feeling is sincere,” she said Friday. But given her family situation, the MP believes that it is better to wait before running for the highest position in the Liberal Party.

For the moment, deputies Marc Tanguay, André Fortin and Monsef Derraji have announced that they will not enter the race. Only MP Frédéric Beauchemin showed interest.

For his part, Mme Rizqy said he wanted a “flamboyant” candidate and a real race, in order to encourage debates within the liberal troops.
