“Martomat”, Martomat | Le Devoir

Have you exhausted all your audio resources to entertain your offspring this summer and screen time is long over? Here may be a solution: Martomat’s album. This is the project carried out without pretension, but not without effort, by the actor and director Mathieu Quesnel and his two children, Marius and Tom. Together they recorded 14 short, fun semi-rock songs that don’t have time to go round in circles and that scroll by to the rhythm of a punk record: in 27 minutes everything is tied up. Arranged and produced by Navet Confit — all the same! —, the album is populated with characters, like Jean-Francine — who loves France and its swimming pool —, Madame Barbouchette and the less fictional Maman, who likes yoga but not fried chicken. Everyone always sings at the same time, which can end up being off-putting, but Martomat juggles words and sounds well. Ideal for ages 5 to 9, maybe older if you like. Replay potential? Very reasonable.
