Elected councilor in the district of Villeray, Martine Musau Muele was chosen by mayor Valérie Plante to become president of the municipal council. A lawyer by training, Ms. Musau Muele will be the first black woman to hold this post.
His appointment will have to be ratified by the municipal council during the assembly on November 29.
A law graduate from the University of Ottawa, Martine Musau Muele notably founded the boutique firm Muele, specializing in public policy and administrative law.
“She is the best placed to chair the municipal council,” said Valérie Plante Thursday morning during the meeting of the executive committee. “She is a rigorous lawyer. She specializes in ethics, administrative law, governance and citizen participation. Ms. Musau Muele has worked with several municipalities and notably worked in the Canadian Armed Forces and as a commissioner at the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM).
“All these qualities will ensure that she will be able to skilfully direct the work of the municipal council and promote constructive discussions. This is what Montrealers expect, ”explained the mayor.
