Martine Delvaux in the running for the Medici Prize

Martine Delvaux’s essay, It could have been a moviefound itself on Wednesday among the essays selected for the Medici Prize.


Published by Éditions Héliotrope last year, this essay between story and investigation navigates around Joan Mitchell, Jean Paul Riopelle and Hollis Jeffcoat – an American painter who lived with the famous couple. The author is currently on a promotional tour in France, where her book was recently published.

It could have been a movie is also in the preliminary list for the 2024 Quebec Booksellers Prize, as well as in the short list for the Janette-Bertrand Prize, which will be awarded in November at the Montreal Book Fair.

The Médicis Prize jury also revealed the second selections for the prize in the French-speaking novel categories (won last year by Kev Lambert for May our joy remain) and foreign novels.

The winners of the three categories will be revealed on November 6.
