Dominique Ducharme has been fired from his position as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, general manager Kent Hughes confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
Ducharme went 23-46-14 in 83 regular season games. In the playoffs, he went 13-6 in 19 games, leading the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup final since 1993.
“We would like to sincerely thank Dominique for her work and contribution to the organization. We felt it was in the best interest of the team to make a change at this point in the season,” Hughes said in a statement.
The Canadian clarified that Ducharme’s replacement will be announced “over the next few hours”.
