The North Carolina club announced Thursday that the contract will allow the 23-year-old player to earn 2.5 million and 3.5 million per year respectively.

The Czech, selected in the first round in 2017, is seen as one of the key cogs for the future of the team. He was inconsistent last season, however, and finished the campaign with 14 goals and 26 assists. He was also unable to find the back of the net in 14 playoff games.

“I have to help the team more, I have to be more productive offensively,” Necas said in June after his team were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. “That’s pretty much what everyone expects of me. I haven’t been this season. So like I said, it was disappointing on my part. »

However, the Hurricanes bet on Necas’ long-term potential.

“We have to find a way to reach the next round [en séries éliminatoires], Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour said in June. And I believe Marty has the potential to help us do that. »

Necas, who was a restricted free agent, scored 45 goals in 203 games with the Hurricanes.
