Martigues inaugurates its new outdoor and heated 50-meter pool

How about diving in a 50-meter pool, outdoors, in the middle of November? It will be possible in Martigues from this weekend. New olympic basin is inaugurated this Friday evening, after three years of work, next to the indoor swimming pool.

It is a Nordic basin, unique in the sector, where the water is heated all year round, ecologically, in particular thanks to 450m2 of solar panels and solar collectors installed on the roof of the indoor swimming pool building. The water should be kept at approximately 28 degrees every day, with this heating system but also thanks to a pool cover put in place every night, explains the mayor of Martigues Gaby Charroux: “lThe basin cover is at the bottom of the basin and it is raised to the surface each evening“. Martigues swimming pool now has 1468 m2 of water surface.

After the official opening this Friday evening at 5.30 p.m., the general public will be able to slip into one of the eight water lines from this weekend and test the new equipment. During these two days, access to the indoor swimming pool will not be open. From Monday entry will be paid *. Amateur swimmers will be able to rub shoulders daily the champions of the French open water swimming team led by Philippe Lucas and who now trains in Martigues. It is in the morning, when the sportsmen are training that the amateurs will be able to cross them: “_They will swim in two lines of water and the other lines will be open to the publi_c”, explains the mayor of Martigues Gaby Charroux.
