A new Champions League final in France after the fiasco at the Stade de France in 2022? The city of Marseille offered, on Tuesday, September 24, to host the C1 final in 2027 at the Vélodrome, after UEFA’s decision to withdraw this match from the San Siro stadium in Milan, due to scheduled works.

“And why not Marseille, in the most beautiful stadium in France: the Vélodrome”launched on X (ex-Twitter) the city’s deputy for sports, Sébastien Jibrayel, just a few hours after UEFA’s announcement. “With Mayor Benoît Payan, we will support Marseille’s bid to host the Champions League final in 2027”he added.

Earlier in the day, UEFA announced that San Siro, home to AC Milan and Inter Milan, had lost the hosting rights to the event because the city could not guarantee that the pitch and surrounding area would be fit for purpose. “would not be affected by the renovation works during the period of the 2027 Champions League final”.

Therefore, “It has been decided not to hold the final in Milan and to open a new application process to designate a suitable site, with a decision expected in May or June 2025.”the European body specified.
