Olympique de Marseille was sanctioned with a match behind closed doors by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), which met on Wednesday, November 17, after the incidents that punctuated the reception of Paris Saint- Germain. The committee, on the other hand, did not want to go so far as to lift the suspension of one point, which still hangs over the heads of the Olympians since the events that occurred in Angers in September.

Lasers and projectile jets during OM-PSG at the origin of the sanctions

On October 24, the poster for the 11th day of Ligue 1 between Marseillais and Parisians had been marked by numerous incidents within the Vélodromes enclosure. PSG players had notably suffered from projectile throws when taking the corners.

The meeting had even been interrupted for a few minutes in the middle of the first period, to regain calm, and so that Benoît Bastien, the referee, noted the incidents. A supporter had also entered the lawn, a quarter of an hour before the final whistle, to try to get a photo and a hug with Lionel Messi, thus annihilating a Parisian offensive. Finally, the players had also been targeted by beams of green lasers from the stands.

OM on borrowed time after the excesses of Nice-OM and Angers-OM

These incidents are the latest in a black series for Olympique de Marseille, already sanctioned twice this season for overflows in the stands, in Nice on August 22 and in Angers a month later. The club was under the threat of a point withdrawal following the events at the Angevins, since several supporters had come down from their yard to rush to another stand.
