Marquinhos regrets the atmosphere at the Parc des Princes and invites Parisian supporters to “put their pride aside”

It was a very dull football match attended by spectators at the Parc des Princes on Sunday 17 April. Despite the promise of an enticing meeting between the two rivals, neither PSG nor OM managed to ignite this “Classic” of the French championship.

If the players of the capital come out winners of this 32nd day (2-1), the number of shots – 10, i.e. lowest total in a Ligue 1 match this season – says enough about the boredom of the supporters in the stands.

At the microphone of Prime Video after the meeting, the Parisian captain Marquinhos, at first, preferred to retain the victory, explaining in particular “not to have come here to play well and lose but to win this game”. Paris garners three additional points against a direct competitor and the title is inexorably approaching. But it was on the attitude of the ultras of the capital club, who went on strike for encouragement, that the Brazilian was the sharpest.

Asked about the lack of atmosphere at the Park, the defender confessed “not to expect” to such a reception from the fans. “During a Classic, you have to put everything aside. It was not the time to do that. We understand that, they have their arguments, they may not have the answers, but you had to be proud aside for that moment. As a player, I don’t agree.”

For his part, the Parisian coach Mauricio Pocchettino was more polite after the meeting. We always hope that our supporters will give us the impetus, their energy. They have already expressed their fed up, we have freedom of expression, it’s their way of doing things, I respect it. We would like to have our supporters, but that’s the way it is, we can’t change things. The club can win a tenth title, it’s something, it would be better to celebrate it all together.” The call for reconciliation is launched. It remains to be seen whether this will be heard, and this from Wednesday (9 p.m.) in Angers.
