Originally expected to hit the market in the second half of 2021, the Nissan Ariya has been pushed back for the first time to early 2022. Due to global semiconductor shortages and other supply issues, the automaker is now announcing a another postponement.
According to what Automotive Newssales of the new electric crossover will begin on May 12 in Japan, this summer in Europe and in the fall in North America.
As indicated on the Nissan Canada website, the first reservation period launched on February 3 has ended (a refundable deposit of $1,000 was required), but there is no mention of when consumers will be able to reserve a copy. They are simply invited to subscribe to receive updates.
Recall that the prices of the Nissan Ariya 2023 have still not been announced. In fact, we haven’t even seen the production model for our market yet. The Canadian premiere scheduled for the Montreal Auto Show in January did not take place following the cancellation of the event and it is a pre-production Ariya straight from Japan – with right-hand drive – that the company showed us at the Nissan Studio in Yorkdale (Toronto) this winter.
No presence at the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show has been announced either.
Future rival of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E, not to mention the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the Ariya offers front-wheel-drive and e4orce all-wheel-drive configurations as well as a choice of 63 kWh batteries or 87 kWh (usable capacity).
Autonomy varies from 330 to 482 kilometers according to Nissan estimates, while power is 214 or 389 horsepower depending on the number of engines.
Six equipment levels are on the menu and the ProPILOT Assist semi-autonomous driving system with Navi-link technology is included as standard. ProPILOT Park assisted parking is optional. Added to this are wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto functions, as well as various security technologies related to Nissan’s 360 Security Shield.
Hopefully Nissan can provide more details on the Ariya’s availability in the coming weeks.
