Mariupol refuses to capitulate to the Russians

Not much remains of one of the residential areas of Mariupol (Ukraine). But the martyred city holds firm. “Ukraine will not lay down its arms and leave the besieged city“, declared Monday March 21 the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, in reaction to the ultimatum posed by Russia a few hours earlier.

“We call on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, territorial defense battalions and foreign mercenaries to cease hostilities and enter the territories controlled by Kyiv through the humanitarian corridors agreed with the Ukrainian side“, had made it known Mikhail Mizintsev, director of the Russian National Defense Management Center. Day after day, Mariupol is consumed everywhere. Strikes notably targeted a school, and an arts center was bombed. Four hundred people had taken refuge inside. No human toll could be established. The Russian army, supported by Chechen mercenaries who had come as reinforcements, continued its advance in Mariupol. However, the resistance is fierce.
