Marion Cotillard: Air travel, clothing consumption… the cash activist on his contradictions

On the cover of the magazine Marie Claire, Marion Cotillard is literally sublime on glossy paper. The 47-year-old actress, who has just bought herself a magnificent villa in Los Angeles, nevertheless wishes to address a subject that is particularly close to her heart in the pages of the magazine: ecology. In a time of climate emergency, the Oscar-winning star uses her glamorous voice to raise awareness about the issue, she who just launched the production company Newtopia which aims to create ambitious stories that shape a sustainable and sustainable world. This does not prevent him from pointing out his own contradictions on the subject.

With her two children, Marcel, 11, and Louise, 5, whose father is Guillaume Canet, it is at dinner that The kid talks a lot about the environment: “My daughter is still a little smallbut my son is already very sensitive to environmental and human issues, and reacts to current events.” He did not, moreover, hide his anger against the words of Kylian MBappé who has played down ecological problems and will boycott the World Cup, despite his passion for football.

However, Marion Cotillard acknowledges her contradictions on the subject of the environment. If she takes the plane less than at one time, it is also because she no longer wants to be too far from her children. But it will certainly be fashion and clothing that remains a complicated subject for the artist. “Jconsumes, again, a lotmuch less than before, but I have to admit that when I buy a piece of clothing today, it’s more to please myself than out of necessity – while still questioning myself a lotp”, explains the famous guest of the biggest parades of Fashion Week, in all frankness.

I’m upset

If she has to work on this subject, she also notices that the environment in which she works also has a lot to do: “Cinema is indeed a polluting industry. But there are many positions on which we can intervene. More and more companies are also offering audits to help film productions to be more virtuous. (…) The United States is more advanced than us. (…) I remember on the set ofInception where Leonardo DiCaprio, very committed to these issues, was there, solar panels provided the energy necessary for all the machines.” Marion Cotillard says she is disappointed by the government’s inaction elsewhere: “The power abyss: when we see the internal wars, the manipulations within the parties (…) I am disappointed by the non-commitment, by the inaction and worse, by the actions which go against what ‘we should do.”
