Marino comes within a win of the main draw

(Paris) Canada’s Rebecca Marino defeated Katarina Zavatska 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday to come just one win away from the main draw in singles at the French Open.

Marino, the ninth seed in the qualifying table, defeated the 210-ranked Ukrainianand in the world after one hour and three minutes of play on Parisian clay.

The 31-year-old British Columbian once again used her power to overcome her rival, including scoring seven aces – against zero for Zavatska.

In addition, Marino won 77% of the points with her first serve, and she converted six of her nine break points. Zavatska didn’t get as many chances to break the Maple Leaf representative, but she still recorded two breaks in three opportunities.

Marina, 116and player in the world, will face in the last round of the qualifying draw the winner of the match between Australian Seone Mendez (no 223) and American Caroline Dolehide (no 173). This duel will take place later today.
