Marine Le Pen, Jean-Marie Le Pen or Louis Aliot as well as 24 other people referred to the criminal court next fall. The Paris prosecutor’s office suspects the party at the time of having put in place, between 2004 and 2016, a system of remuneration by the European Union for assistants to MEPs who actually worked for the party. “We formally contest the accusations made against our MEPs and our parliamentary assistants”replied the RN via a press release.
A case that sticks to the skin of the National Rally
The investigation began in 2015 following a report from the European Parliament to French justice. In 2017, Marine Le Pen was indicted for breach of trust and complicity. The facts were reclassified as embezzlement of public funds. This affair sticks to the skin of the RN without weakening it. The European Parliament, civil party in the case, estimates the damage at 6.8 million euros.
