Marine Le Pen, her father and 26 other people are put on trial. All will be tried in the fall of 2024 for embezzlement of public funds. They are suspected of having employed, with European funds, collaborators who actually worked for the National Front.

Marine Le Pen, Jean-Marie Le Pen and Louis Aliot, as well as 24 other people, were referred to the criminal court next fall. The Paris prosecutor’s office suspects the party leadership at the time of having put in place, between 2004 and 2016, a system of remuneration by the European Union for assistants to MEPs who actually worked for the National Front. Accusations denied outright by a press release.

6.8 million euros in damage

The investigation began in March 2015 following a report from the European Parliament to French justice. After several refusals to appear before the judges, Marine Le Pen was indicted in 2017 for breach of trust and complicity, facts ultimately reclassified as embezzlement of public funds. It is a matter that sticks to the skin of the National Rally, without seeming to weaken it. Civil party in this case, the European Parliament estimates its damage at 6.8 million euros.
