Marie-Pier Houle will have the opportunity to get her hands on a first world title.
The boxer from Terrebonne will face Englishwoman Sandy Ryan for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on April 22 at the Cardiff International Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
Houle (8-0-1, 2 KOs) is ranked fourth overall in the organization at 147 pounds, while Ryan (5-1, 2 KOs) is ranked third. Ryan has, however, delivered his last two fights at the super-lightweight (140 pounds).
The fight will be presented in partnership with Matchroom Sport from promoter Eddie Hearn, who manages Ryan’s career.
Houle fought his last fight on January 13th. She had then signed a unanimous decision victory over Marisol Moreno, but it was more the judges’ scores than the fight that had made the headlines.
The notes of Jean Gauthier (80-72) and Sylvain Leblanc (79-73) had greatly reacted, as much the crowd, the Moreno clan and Houle, who had admitted that the fight had been much tighter than what these two judges saw. Pasquale Procopio, with a score of 77-75, was closer to what was seen by everyone at Place Bell that evening.
Ryan meanwhile last stepped into the ring in November. She got her hands on the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International light welterweight belt by winning it by unanimous decision against Anahi Ester Sanchez.
