Marie-Florence Candassamy queen of the world sword! By beating in the final (15-12), the Italian Alberta Santuccio, the French won her first individual world title, Tuesday July 25 in Milan. After taking out the Olympic champion Sun Yiwen in the semi-finals, the resident of the Paris University Club (PUC) therefore won her best individual title in her career after a perfect day.

A surprise title for Marie-Florence Candassamy, not the favorite at the start of the competition and who thwarted all the predictions. “It was an epic day. I was so focused, so focused that I ignored everything around me,” said the Frenchwoman, finally happy to have woken up at dawn: “I arrived at the room at 6:30 a.m., it’s the first time I’ve gotten up so early, at 5:15 a.m. But this wake-up call was worth it, like all those before it.”

It’s the first title for French women’s epee since Maureen Nisima in Paris in 2010. A good omen, as the Paris 2024 Olympics loom on the horizon, and a great way to kick off the world championships for the French camp, with the final stages starting on July 25.
