Marie-Ève Dicaire loses by unanimous decision to Natasha Jonas

Quebecer Marie-Ève Dicaire fought well, but Briton Natasha Jonas was too strong for her.

Dicaire lost by unanimous decision in a unification bout in Manchester, England on Saturday.

One judge gave a score of 100-90, another gave a card of 98-92 and the last gave a score of 97-93 in favor of Jonas (13-2-1, 8 KOs) , who is now the unified super welterweight champion.

Dicaire (18-2, 1 KO) held the International Boxing Federation belt and was looking to become the first unified champion in Quebec women’s boxing history.

Dicaire was fighting her first fight since December 2021, when she defeated Cynthia Lozano to regain her IBF title.

Jonas won the World Boxing Organization belt by defeating Chris Namus and added the World Boxing Council belt after defeating Patricia Berghult.

Jonas started the fight very well and she got to the Quebecer with some good backhand shots. Halfway through the clash, Dicaire started to lose ground, but the tighter final rounds undermined his chances of leaving England with all three belts.
