Marianne Fest | A creative market signed by Marianne Plaisance

For 10 years, the very colorful artist and content creator Marianne Plaisance has been broadcasting DIY tips and decorating advice on YouTube on her channel 2e skin. To celebrate this anniversary in a big way, the one who has nearly 250,000 subscribers on this platform – and thousands more on Instagram and TikTok – is organizing… a festival. On the eve of this creative market, which will be held this Sunday, she answers questions from The Press.

Why did you decide to create a festival to celebrate your 10th anniversary on YouTube?

My mission with my YouTube, Instagram and TikTok platforms is really to highlight my creativity, but also that of local artists. My primary goal is to highlight the talent we have in Quebec. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I thought doing a creative market would be a great way to celebrate my 10th anniversary on YouTube – because I feel like not many people make it that far. There will be around fifteen local artists and shops who have contributed to my platforms in recent years. I find it fun for the people who follow me. They will be able to come and discover the artists that I love and that I have been talking about for a long time.

What will Marianne Fest look like?

It’s going to be a colorful, creative market. It’s going to be so much fun. On site, there will be free coffee for everyone, cotton candy, we will be able to screen print tote bags [sacs fourre-tout]It’s Marianne Fest because it’s really the things I love gathered in one place. The event is completely DIY by me. I’m the one who makes all the kiosks, all the decoration. I’m the one who organizes it on my own. Actually, it’s me and my friend Rachel Boileau, my assistant.

What decorative discoveries will people be able to make during the festival?

There will be a booth from the company Les Fleursées, which makes a ton of small accessories for the home in which dried flowers are imprisoned. It’s absolutely beautiful! There will be the Baba Souk company, which makes cushions and Moroccan rugs. It’s colorful and so beautiful! There will be Végétal Design and its plants that stand out from the crowd. There will also be bien.beau, which sells second-hand finds. Lots of small objects like glasses, cups vintage too beautiful and, once again, very colorful. There will also be Paperole, which collaborates with illustrators from around the world and here. I love this store. In addition to decoration, you will really find everything: jewelry, second-hand clothes, food, cosmetics…

Are you thinking of repeating the experience?

I would like that. The first event hasn’t happened yet, so I’ll see, but there’s more excitement than I thought. We had a great response, both from participants in the event and from people who want to attend. I think next time we could do it in an even bigger place and with more artists. In my wildest dreams, I would do a “Christmas market” edition.

In 10 years, you have seen many decorating trends. What was your favorite?

In 2024, color is back in fashion in decors. I always liked color, even when it wasn’t fashionable. But I’m really happy that people are less and less afraid to incorporate color. In the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, it was so colorful! Then, the spaces became desaturated. I feel like there is a revival. People are tired of neutrals and invite color into their decor.

Since the launch of 2e skinwhat achievement made you most proud?

I think it’s my show Marianne gets involved [offerte sur Tou.tv], in which I transformed teenagers’ rooms. I found it quite an achievement to make 10 rooms. I’m so proud of that. It was so rewarding to see the teens happy and grateful.

The Marianne Fest will take place on Sunday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Wills, 6729 avenue de l’Esplanade, in Montreal. Free entry.
