Marchessault and the Golden Knights finish off the Oilers

(Edmonton) Jonathan Marchessault had a hat trick 14:10 in the second period and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Oilers 5-2 on Sunday, eliminating Edmonton in six games in the second round.

Marchessault first created the stalemate 2-2 at 4:26, taking advantage of a puck that deflected towards him after a shot from Shea Theodore.

The Quebecer gave priority to the visitors 3: 18 later.

A powerful shot from Alec Martinez was blocked with the right arm by Skinner, before Marchessault took charge of the rebound.

Adin Hill then distinguished himself against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl during a penalty to William Carrier, midway through the second period.

Kailer Yamamoto of the Oilers was punished late in the second period.

Darnell Nurse lay down in front of goal to stifle a threat. Then, the game quickly became four against four, under a penalty to Theodore.

Quickly, it was Mattias Ekholm, of the Oilers, who also sinned by indiscipline.

The Golden Knights set up their attack during the 4 on 3, then Marchessault punctuated the efforts with a successful shot from the right circle at 18:36.

Hill stopped 39 shots, being beaten by Connor McDavid and Warren Foegele.

Stuart Skinner gave up four goals on 17 shots before giving way to Jack Campbell to start the third period.

Campbell blocked four shots.

Reilly Smith and William Karlsson were the other scorers for the Knights, who will face either the Seattle Kraken or the Dallas Stars in the Western Final.

The seventh game of this series will be held Monday evening, in Texas.

The start of the match was very eventful, with three goals in less than three minutes.

Smith scored just 24 seconds into the game from the slot.

Skinner missed a punt along the boards, Nicolas Roy pressured and the puck swung towards Reilly. The Torontonian converted the chance, scoring his second goal in two games.

McDavid responded 31 seconds later with a wrist shot from the left circle.

The Oilers captain got an eighth goal in the playoffs.

The pass came from Brett Kulak, who had just made a well-timed-and very quick-break to center ice.

Foegele gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead at 2:43. Coming to the right mouthpiece, he took advantage of a snap from Derek Ryan, coming from behind the net.

Marchessault’s brilliance, however, would tip the scales.

The Cap-Rouge player has scored five goals in his last four games.

Karlsson headed the puck into an empty net with 38 seconds on the clock. It had been nearly three minutes since Campbell released his goal, thanks to one more attacker.
