A march to defend the maintenance of the statue of Saint Michel is organized this Saturday morning in Les Sables d’Olonne, at the initiative of the friendly Sablaise des parachutists. “Saint-Michel is the protector of Paratroopers. We wish to demonstrate our attachment to this tradition, to our values, to our history. Soldiers from all over France contact us to show their support and their sadness to see this symbol threatened. (…) We invite all the inhabitants to participate in this secular and apolitical celebration.” indicates Jean-Michel Bruel, president of theParachutists’ Sandblast Association and External Operations.
Referred by the Vendée Federation of Free Thought to the administrative court then the Administrative Court of Appeal of Nantes
(in September) called on the city to remove the statue from the public domain in the name of separation of church and state. But the mayor of Les Sables d’Olonne Yannick Moreau appealed to the Council of State. He has just received the support of the president of the departmental council of Vendée Alain Leboeuf.
The rally begins at 10 a.m. at the Jardin de la Liberté, before a march to Place Saint Michel.
