March against anti-Semitism, immigration law in the Senate, Ukraine moving closer to the EU… Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade’s “8:30 am franceinfo”

The Renaissance deputy for French people abroad and president of the European Affairs Committee in the Assembly was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Saturday November 11.

Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade, Renaissance deputy for French people living abroad and president of the European Affairs Committee at the Assembly, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Saturday November 11. The absence of Emmanuel Macron at the march against anti-Semitism this Sunday, the Senate vote on the immigration law, the new step taken by Ukraine towards membership in the European Union… He answered questions from Jean-Rémi Baudot and Hadrien Bect.

Demonstrations, not a “habit” of Emmanuel Macron

“The President of the Republic does not have the habit of participating in demonstrations”, reacts Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade, while Emmanuel Macron announced that he would not join the march against anti-Semitism organized this Sunday in Paris, at the call of the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly. The participation of the National Rally and the boycott of La France insoumise have been controversial for days. President “will be widely represented”insists the president of the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.

“The majority will be properly represented by the Prime Minister”, continues Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade. The President of the National Assembly, ministers and deputies of the majority “In large numbers” will also be present.

“The President of the Republic is the one who has been committed for several years with force and self-sacrifice against anti-Semitism.”

The Elysée also announced on Friday that Emmanuel Macron “greet with respect” those who will parade, and that it is about “a reason for hope” while 1,247 anti-Semitic incidents have been recorded in France since the Hamas attack in Israel.

MP Renaissance recognizes that there was “a form of confusion” within the majority in communication on this market. According to him, “the controversies must stop”even if “they had reason to be”. Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade would like to point out that he does not wish to demonstrate “alongside” of the National Rally, because “this party carries within itself a form of anti-Semitism”it’s not “not a party like the others”.

“There is a form of ambiguity in the defense of the Jews by the Rally”denounces the majority deputy, “deep down we wonder if this is not rather a denunciation of our Muslim fellow citizens”.

Immigration law: “the Senate has gone too far”

“The Senate went much too far, it distorted the balance of the text supported by the government”, denounces the Renaissance deputy, while the upper house finished this Friday evening the examination of the immigration bill. The text will be put to the vote this Tuesday, before arriving at the National Assembly. The senators toughened the text, notably by deleting article 3 which proposed to regularize undocumented workers working in professions in shortage. The text now provides that the situation of employees in professions in shortage will be examined on a case-by-case basis by the prefects.

“In the National Assembly, the majority will work to restore the balance of the text”assures Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade.

“We want those who work and integrate into our country to be able to be regularized.”

“We are very attached to ensuring that this article 3 on professions in shortage can regain its initial philosophy“, assures the deputy of French people established abroad.

Even if the return of article 3 risks complicating discussions with the right, Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade is convinced “that there is a path to compromise”.

“Corruption is, after Russia, Ukraine’s biggest enemy”

While the European Commission gave the green light, Wednesday, November 8, to the opening of Ukraine’s accession negotiations to the European Union, corruption remains “after Russia, the greatest enemy” from kyiv, admits Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade.

The country, ranked 116th out of 180 in the global corruption perception index established by the NGO Transparency International, must comply with European requirements to hope to become a member state. “The Ukrainians, for a year and a half, have passed a certain number of laws to reform their judicial system, to fight against all forms of corruption within the State”greets the president of the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, while recalling that there is “obviously still work to do”.

Just back from a trip to kyiv, Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade believes that Europe should not “forget Ukraine”.

“We Europeans must continue to supply weapons. Ukraine is the shield of Europe.”

While the Ukrainian army is struggling to achieve decisive victories against Moscow’s troops, the MP assures that “the Ukrainians have advanced since June”, but that kyiv fears, as winter approaches, Russian bombings on “civil infrastructure, particularly energy”.
