After several years of good and loyal service at France Televisions, Laurent Ruquier decided to jump ship. In fact, he accepted the proposal to
Marc-Olivier Fogiel
and joined BFMTV during the summer transfer window. Hugo Manos’ companion officially took office on September 25, 2023 to lead his 8 p.m. but never really managed to attract viewers.
In fact, only three months after his arrival, the presenter announced his departure from BFMTV
through a publication on his Instagram account on December 26. “I have decided not to continue the adventure…”he began before explaining his choice and taking responsibility for the “low audiences” recorded by his show which he co-hosted with Julie Hammett: “It is clear that the public did not follow me as much as we hoped”. An admitted failure which, however, did not prevent him from quickly finding a place. Indeed, in a few months, he will become an investigator in Mask Singer
on TF1.

Laurent Ruquier “not happy” at BFMTV
A little over a month after this departure, what do you think? Marc-Olivier Fogiel ? The general director of BFMTV precisely gave the answer this Monday, January 29, 2024. In a long interview given to West France
he indicated whether the failure of the departure of Laurent Ruquier has since been digested. “Yes, largely”he assured from the outset before specifying, regarding this joint decision: “We decided to stop in ten minutes, him and I”.
Despite this failure, Marc-Olivier Fogiel don’t regret anything. “But I am especially happy to have tried it because, precisely, when you are leader, you have to try things. Laurent Ruquier was not helped by the news, monothematic from October 7”, he defended himself. The general director of BFMTV also revealed that Laurent Ruquier was not “not happy” and that he “couldn’t fully give what he was capable of”. His new role in Mask Singer could well help Hugo Manos’ companion to smile again.
